Apeldoorn House

A house like no other, a house you will want to return to over and over again.

Your Black Mountain Retreat!

This gorgeous home is nestled on pristine private land in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will be cradled in peace and serenity both inside and outside the house.

Experiencing nature with the sights and sounds of birds, the fluttering of butterfly wings, the babbling of the brook, the grazing of wild turkeys, and possibly the journey of a mama bear and her cubs; these things will give you joy and delight!

Coffee on the porch in the morning and wine in the evening will melt your worries away.

Walk the grounds, see where the fairies live among the ferns in the summer, and enjoy the fire pit when conditions allow.

A stay at Apeldoorn House will send you on your way restored and refreshed!

Charming comments from our wonderful guests…

This place is absolutely breathtaking. Every inch of this house reflects thoughtful details and stunning design. The house provides a perfect situation that allows for rest, relaxation, and reset.

Just outside of Black Mountain, we found ourselves in a comfortable mountain retreat with babbling brook and the comforts of home. We have marked this lovely spot as a place to return to. Located close to restaurants, shopping, mountain hikes, and horseback riding, we made the most out of our days here.

“My only concern about raving about our stay is that we want this place all to ourselves! The house is gorgeous and private with obvious care and thoughtfulness having gone into every design choice. The quality of the home and landscaping was fantastic.”

The Inspiration

The Inspiration

Grandfather Maguire

My Irish ancestors from the 1800s and their thatched roof cottages inspired the design of Appledoorn house.

”What if a house could nurture the people living inside and the world outside too?

What if a house could feed its occupants?

Power itself?   Boost biodiversity?

And at the end, leave no trace?”

Building with Hempcrete is one of many examples of such a home.

Apeldoorn is a Custom Hempcrete Home

dining room

Hempcrete is used as a highly insulative wall material. It is a carbon-negative, natural, and lightweight construction material that provides highly efficient temperature and moisture control. It is also formable, dynamic, one-seventh the weight of concrete, and cures within hours.
